A historic center

From its early beginnings as a schoolhouse, the Jeanne Dini Center has become a cornerstone of music, art, entertainment and culture in Mason Valley.

1912

Schoolhouse Opened

The building opened its doors as a community schoolhouse, seeing 130 students for the 1912-1913 school year.

1935

Schoolhouse Expanded

Renowned Nevada architect Frederic J. DeLongchamps designed a two-story ell addition at the rear of the school, expanding its capacity.

1980

Schoolhouse Closed

With the addition of schools all around Grammar School No. 9 and its aging, the building ceased operations and became additional storage.

1988

Renovation Begins

Led by the late Jeanne Dini, local citizens initiated efforts to rehabilitate the abandoned school building, aiming to transform it into a performing arts center.

1998

Grand Opening

To kick off 1998, the Jeanne Dini Cultural Center opened in January under the direction and stewardship of Yerington Theater for the Arts.
